Ouch

Questions and answers.

What people ask before downloading an image compressor. If yours isn’t here, ask us and we’ll add it.

Will Ouch upload my images?

No. Everything runs locally on your Mac. Ouch works with Wi-Fi turned off.

Is the free version limited to one image at a time?

No. Free handles hundreds of images and a whole folder in one run, with no file cap, time limit or watermark.

Does Ouch always make a smaller file?

No, and that is deliberate. Ouch measures the result. If re-encoding would not create a genuine improvement, it keeps the original untouched.

What happens when I choose Lossless?

Not one pixel changes. Ouch looks for a smaller way to store the same image data.

What happens to my originals?

Replace originals is off by default. If you turn it on, Ouch checks that the new file is valid, correctly sized and genuinely smaller before moving the original to the Trash. The original remains recoverable.

Can Ouch prepare images for a website?

Yes. Pro can export AVIF plus JPEG or WebP plus JPEG pairs into a Web images folder, ready for a picture element. Originals stay untouched.

Can I resize images too?

Yes. Every user can fit images to common screen sizes. Pro adds an exact pixel-size field.

Is Pro a subscription?

No. It is one payment and includes every future version.

Free is free. Pro is once.

No trial clock. No watermark. No file cap. No subscription. Free on Apple silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later.
